The psychiatric patient informed consent bill would make it mandatory for every healthcare provider across Ontario prescribing psychiatric drugs to disclose to their patient the "warnings and precautions" in the monograph of each drug being prescribed.

INFORMED CONSENT IS A HUMAN RIGHT

Did you know that informed consent is a human right and is legally required by all healthcare providers in Ontario before they can administer treatment? Ontario has the Health Care Consent Act and Canada has also signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities which requires "health professionals to provide care of the same quality to persons with disabilities as to others, including on the basis of free and informed consent, inter alia, raising awareness of the human rights, dignity autonomy and needs of persons with disabilities through training and promulgation of ethical standards for public and private health care."
